How to Pick a Niche ?
Hey,
I hope you had a great weekend.
On Friday, some of my family made the 250 mile
trek to see my new place, and I was really glad
for that.
While she was here, my mom found this
website that she’s excited about, because it
will allow her to sell some crafts online.
She’s super passionate about “crafty” things
like making hand-made cards, making custom
“welcome” signs, and fancy wood working.
We’ve had many conversations about turning
that passion into a business, and I’m excited
that she’s starting to show some interest.
Because of social media, blogs, and the massive
number of affiliate programs that exist online,
it’s now possible to turn just about ANY passion
into a sustainable business.
That’s why when people ask me “what niche
should I choose?”, I always fire back:
“What are you passionate about?”
See, I could SAY that you should promote six
pack abs programs, or “green” energy products,
or internet marketing programs, but that would be
stupid of me if you weren’t passionate about that topic.
I mean, who wants to start a blog about something
that they don’t give a hoot about?
If you’re writing articles or making blog posts or
making landing pages for something that you
don’t care about, then you’re gonna run into a
brick wall.
Here’s why…
When you hit a bump in the road, and you don’t care
about what you’re writing about, you’ll have zero
motivation to get over the hump.
Or… if you try to write about something that you
don’t know anything about, you’ll sound like a
real dufus awfully quickly.
And… if you plan to answer people’s questions
and recommend them to specific affiliate programs,
how will you know how to answer their emails if
you don’t care about the niche? (Which means
you probably don’t care about them!)
So, the easy solution to this…
Do what you love.
What gets you jazzed up? What makes you
excited for the day?
I’ve got a few things…
1) Business / Economics / Marketing
2) Holistic Medicine
3) Baseball
4) Politics
Pick any one of those, and I could talk/write
about it all day and not get bored… I love
hearing people’s opinions and experiences,
and when people have a different opinion,
I get excited because it means I’m about to
have a great discussion…
What makes you feel like that??
Is it crafting?
Is it mentoring children?
Is it singing?
Maybe it’s a sport?
Whatever you love, you can monetize.
Didja catch that??
“Whatever you love, you can monetize.”
You know, last week I had a great discussion
with my buddy, Travis, about me getting into
holistic medicine niche.
Now, I am no doctor, nor do I pretend to know
anything that I don’t.
So you know what I did?
I sent an email to an author that I like, and I
asked him if I could interview him for some
content…
And you know what? HE AGREED!
So then, I contacted a local chiropractor
that is ridiculously well-versed in
alternative medicine, and I asked him
the same question…
We recorded the interview three days
later.
Granted, I offered to pay them for their
time, and I did so, but I didn’t HAVE to
do that.
So now, I have several hours of content
that I can sell or give out to a list that I
develop within the niche.
And I can use that content for future
blog posts, articles, and web sites.
You seeing how this works?
Whatever you love… I PROMISE that
you can monetize it.
And you know what? If you do what
you love, then you’ll never have to
work a day in your life.
That’s all… I just wanted to pass those
thoughts along to you…
I hope it gets your gears turning.
Have a good one!
Ryan
P.S. I’ve got some really cool stuff
coming your way this week that you’re
not going to want to miss.
Awhile back, I mentioned that I
did a case study on a website that
I built that went from zero to profitable
in just a few short days.
When I mentioned it, I was bombarded
with emails by people who were looking
to get access to it…
And I wasn’t sure if I was going to release
it or not, and I’m probably not going to sell
it just yet (or maybe ever), but I AM going to
let you know how to get it.
I’ll be sharing the details with you on that
this week…
